Biography

Tina Vo, an assistant professor with UNLV's College of Education, specializes in supporting elementary and junior high school (K-8) teachers and students to engage in science education through learning practices that include asking questions, using models, and thinking computationally.

As a former middle school teacher, Vo strives to develop collaborative spaces for teachers and preservice teachers to develop and support critical thinking, encourage the consumption and implementation of relevant information, and personal reflection on learning. Her current research includes a focus on developing models aimed at solving community problems, preparing elementary science teachers for 21st-century classrooms, and the role of epistemological considerations in classroom negotiations.

Vo's other research interests include games and simulations tied to scientific modeling, technology integration to support science in elementary contexts, and professional development supporting elementary teachers’ engagement with science and educational geology.
