Biography

Joseph Lombardo is director of UNLV’s National Supercomputing Institute. He is a consultant to numerous industries, academia, and government laboratories with an expertise in 3-D modeling codes, massively parallel computing, data management, and data visualization.

A UNLV staff member since 1991, Lombardo worked as a supercomputer researcher until 1997, when he was named director of the Institute. He has led numerous grants related to high-performance computing, and he has served as a witness for the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation's Subcommittee on Technology, Innovation, and Competitiveness in Washington, D.C. 

Under Lombardo's management, the National Supercomputing Institute has supported more than 200 scientific projects related to global atmospheric modeling and fossil energy research.
