UNLV Parking and Transportation Services is once again proving that great design — and Rebel spirit — comes in all forms, including graham crackers and frosting.
The team earned first place for “Most Realistic” in the Southwest Parking & Transportation Association’s (SWPTA) Gingerbread Parking Garage Contest, thanks to a meticulously crafted gingerbread parking garage and village, inspired by UNLV’s campus and the upcoming Transit Center Garage, a new multi-level garage being built on University Road. It will bring 1,250 additional spaces to campus.
This year’s entry focused on realism and operational detail. Built in the style of a true UNLV parking structure, the gingerbread garage features clearly marked parking stalls, drive aisles, and realistic striping and wayfinding — details that are immediately recognizable to anyone familiar with campus parking. It also includes multiple levels connected by peppermint ramps, frosting-snow foundations, and a sparkling “Glittering Lights” display on the top floor.
Around the parking structure, the team built a full gingerbread campus village meant to reflect the campus environment, complete with light-strung trees, snowmen, walkways lined with holiday treats, a hot cocoa stand, the iconic UNLV letters, and a “Welcome” archway greeting visitors. The village also includes a Santa-operated train filled with sweet treats and cabins for gingerbread students.
Congratulations to all the Parking and Transportation Services team members who worked together to create another award-winning build — and for spreading a little extra holiday cheer, Rebel-style.
