Solar Decathlon: The Race is On

Timelapse video of DesertSol home shows construction progress

With about two months before the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2013, the race is on to finish construction on DesertSol.

A timelapse camera has been filming the construction progress that the students of the UNLV Solar Decathlon Team, Team Las Vegas, have been making on the solar-powered prototype home. This video shows the early stages of the construction phase, which began in April. This is the first edition of the timelapse video series that the team will be releasing throughout the process.

The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2013 is an international competition with the goal of educating the public about energy-saving residential designs. It requires collegiate teams to design, build, and maintain sustainable solar-powered houses. These are student-run projects, with the guidance and support from faculty members, industry mentors, and community supporters.
