Tara McManus (Communication Studies) and co-author Courtney Rilinger (Park University) published the paper, "The Influence of Attributions, Emotions, and Sexual Health Knowledge on Support Provision to Friends with Sexual Health Uncertainties," in the journal Health Communication. The results indicate that the more participants assigned blame to their friend for the friend's sexual health uncertainty, the more fear the participant experienced (and fear was exacerbated when participants had lower perceived sexual health knowledge). Yet, the more fear experienced, the more nurturant, informational, and tangible support they provided to their friend.
