Assistant professor Susana Sepulveda (Interdisciplinary, Gender, and Ethnic Studies) presented on Chicanas and Latinas in the Riot Grrrl revival scenes in a roundtable panel titled, "West Coast Punks, Scene Kids, & Riot Grrrls: Fringe Memories and Survival in Precarious Times," at PopCon 2026 (March) hosted at USC in Los Angeles. Centering the cultural productions and experiences of Chicanas and Latinas in fringe feminist punk and riot grrrl scenes in the Westcoast and Southwest during the 2000s and 2010s, Sepulveda discussed how these subjects didn’t just revive riot grrrl but transformed it by insisting on intersectionality long excluded from the movement’s popular legacy.
