Ph.D. student Stephanie A. Torres (Anthropology) published a co-authored case report titled, "An Unusual Taphonomic Case Report of Human Skeletal Remains in an Urban Aqueduct" in the American Journal of Forensic Medicine & Pathology. The case report details the plastic deformation and creep rupture exhibited by remains that were exposed to high-pressure, continuous water flow for several years. The case emphasizes the need for knowledge of the recovery scene, a better understanding of decomposition and taphonomic processes in treated aquatic sites, and the importance of intrinsic bone biomechanical characteristics.
