Shannon Monnat (Sociology) coauthored an article, "Trends in the Family Income Distribution by Race/Ethnicity and Income Source, 1988-2009," with a colleague at the University at Albany - State University of New York. The article was recently published in the peer-reviewed journal, Population Review. The paper examines changes in overall family income and sources of income across five different levels of income earners within white-, black-, and Hispanic-headed families. The research finds that the racial gap in overall family income has remained stable over time, but there has been a narrowing of the racial gap in income earned from property and a widening of the gap in income earned from employment.
