Kavita Batra (Medicine), associate editor of the Journal of Health and Social Sciences (JHSS), co-authored a new article titled, "Towards Responsible AI Use in Scientific Publishing: A Comprehensive Generative AI Policy." In response to the growing use of generative AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude in academic publishing, JHSS adopted a formal GenAI policy, effective June 27, 2025, covering manuscript preparation, peer review, and editorial workflows. The policy aligns with recommendations from COPE, ICMJE, Scopus, and other major journals. Batra also participates in UNLV’s Generative AI Fellows Pilot Program, an initiative designed to empower students and faculty to responsibly integrate AI technologies and keep UNLV at the forefront of innovation and education.
