Kavita Batra (Medicine) co-authored "Global Burden of Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa, 1990 to 2023, With Forecasts to 2050: A Global Burden of Disease Study 2023 Analysis," published online October 28 in JAMA Psychiatry. Batra is a Senior Collaborator in the Global Burden of Disease network and contributed to data interpretation and critical review. The study estimates that 18.1 million people worldwide were living with anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa in 2023. Case numbers have risen 71% since 1990, the largest relative increases were in East, South and Southeast Asia, and cases are forecast to reach 21.8 million by 2050.
