Kavita Batra (Medicine) co-authored an article, “Measuring the composition and availability of human resources for health by sex in 204 countries and territories, 1990–2023, and workforce gaps for universal health coverage: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023,” published in The Lancet Public Health. The study found that the global health workforce has expanded substantially since 1990, driven largely by women entering the formal health workforce. However, significant regional disparities and persistent workforce gaps remain, highlighting the need for expanded training, improved retention and remuneration, and gender-responsive workforce policies.
