Kavita Batra (Medicine), together with the 2023 Breast Cancer Collaborators, contributed to the landmark study “Global, regional, and national burden of breast cancer among females, 1990–2023, with forecasts to 2050: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023,” published in The Lancet Oncology and funded by the Gates Foundation and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The study highlights widening global disparities: while high-income countries show stable incidence and declining mortality due to effective screening and treatment, many other regions face rising incidence and mortality, threatening progress toward the WHO Global Breast Cancer Initiative target of a 2.5% annual reduction in mortality by 2040. Dr. Batra served as a senior collaborator on the study. As an interdisciplinary researcher, she has contributed methodological and analytical expertise to multiple global epidemiological initiatives spanning diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, maternal and child health, neurological disorders, immune deficiency diseases, stillbirths, and other major global health priorities.
