This recent publication represents a collaboration among Hiraku Nagahori (Interdisciplinary Health Sciences); Xan Goodman (University Libraries); Hsiang-Ling Teng, Professor at California State University, Long Beach; and Kai-Yu Ho (Physical Therapy). The study addresses an important gap in musculoskeletal imaging by systematically evaluating the reliability and validity of ultrasound for assessing femoral cartilage morphology and composition, including cartilage thickness and water content, compared with MRI. Given ultrasound's affordability, accessibility, portability, and non-invasive nature, this work provides an important foundation for future research exploring ultrasound as a quantitative tool for detecting and monitoring early cartilage changes and expanding the clinical and research applications of musculoskeletal imaging.
