Farhana Khandoker and Manoj Sharma (both Social and Behavioral Health) coauthored an article titled “Applying the multi-theory model of health behavior change to examine depression among adults with type 2 diabetes,” in the journal Healthcare (Impact factor 2.7).
The article reified the framework of Sharma’s multi-theory model (MTM) of health behavior change to examine the correlates of depression among U.S. adults with diabetes based on Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance (BRFSS) data from 2023. The study found a strong association of mental distress and adverse social conditions with depression among diabetics. The results emphasized the need for screening and educational interventions for distress and policy interventions to reduce social adversities among diabetics. Khandoker is a graduate student.
