Emily Janes (Couple and Family Therapy) and co-authors at Texas Tech and Fairfield University recently published a manuscript titled "Maintaining Family Relationships After Religious Disaffiliation: A Grounded Theory" in Family Process. This article explores, from the perspective of disaffiliated individuals, how families are able to maintain connection and relationships after the disclosure of religious disaffiliation. Overall, the findings suggest that empathy, flexible participation in religious practices, forming community, boundaries, respect, communication, and love are central to maintaining relationships.
