April Ursula Fox (Education) presented her paper, “Meaningful Learning with Zines at the Punk Rock Museum: A Mixed-Methods Study,” at the 2026 American Educational Research Association (AERA) Annual Meeting. The paper was featured in the session “Power and Learning in Museums: Reimagining Museums as Sites of Untold Histories,” part of the SIG-Informal Learning Environment Research.
This study examines zine-making as a creative, participant-driven practice that transforms museum visits into active, meaningful learning experiences. Using a mixed-methods design, the research demonstrates how zines support reflection, critical engagement, and knowledge authorship, repositioning visitors as active interpreters of museum content. As part of a series of six studies, this work contributes to the development of the Performatic Learning framework (in press), which conceptualizes learning as an embodied, agentic, and transformative process.
