Carla Bywaters (Law) and Kathryn Houk (Medicine) presented Risky Business: Debating Data Centers in Southern Nevada. Offered both in person and online, the two-part workshop series guided students and community members through the increasingly complex conversation surrounding regional data center development.
Rather than hosting a traditional debate, Bywaters and Houk focused on information literacy — equipping participants with strategies to find, evaluate, and interpret legal, health, and news resources. Attendees learned to separate reliable data from public rhetoric and translate their research into concise, three-minute public comments for civic engagement.
