Bridget K. Daleiden (Ph.D. Candidate; Educational Psychology) presented her research on music and self-regulated studying in an invited roundtable session honoring the legacy of Dr. Barry J. Zimmerman at the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, CA.
Daleiden’s research builds on Zimmerman’s foundational models of self-regulated learning by examining how students regulate attention and motivation while learning in digitally distracting environments. Her findings suggest that music does not consistently enhance focus or attentional self-efficacy, but serves as a context-dependent strategy for regulating motivation and managing distraction during independent study.
