Austin Horng-En Wang (Political Science) published an op-ed, "Volume Manipulation has become a Bigger Problem of Influence Operations than Fake News", in The Real Clear Defense. Volume manipulation means a country uses mass and social media to influence the issue salience of the targeted country and its population, which undermines its function of public sphere. This article introduces some recent cases in Taiwan and the U.S., and calls for actions, including social media transparency and cross-country collaboration.
