Asma Awan, Md. Sohail Akhter, Sharmistha Roy, and Manoj Sharma (all Social and Behavioral Health) published a paper titled, "School-based interventions for mental health promotion: A systematic review of evidence-based practices at the global level,” in the American Journal of Health Studies. This systematic review synthesized evidence from 24 randomized controlled trials from 2017 to 2024 on school-based mental health promotion interventions and examined reported outcomes to inform intervention frameworks, current policies and resource availability. Overall, school-based mental health interventions reduce depression, anxiety, and psychosocial difficulties in youth, but more rigorous research is needed to strengthen the evidence and assess contextual and societal impacts. Awan, Akhter, and Roy are Ph.D. students.
