Ashkan Salamat (Physics and Astronomy) is the joint recipient of The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation Grant, along with colleagues Ranga Dias (University of Rochester) and Audrey Grockowiak (CNPEM, Brazilian synchrotron). The project, “Exploring the Limits of High-temperature Superconductivity,” is funded at $1,624,838 for 48 months (of which $540,000 is for UNLV). The scope of the award is to provide support for the discovery of new hydrogen-rich, high-temperature superconductors as well as to train the next generation of quantum material experimentalists in a suite of high-pressure techniques. A core initiative of this award is to build strong ties between the high-pressure and quantum materials communities.
