Arthur D. Soto-Vásquez (Journalism and Media Studies) recently published "A Snapshot of Students at Hispanic Serving Institutions and their Pathways into Media Careers" in the Journal of Media Education. The study finds that familial obligations and ambiguous career expectations impact Latino students’ postgraduation career direction. Second, many students grapple with impostor syndrome and a lack of confidence, but early media education can be impactful. Third, local job markets present significant challenges, limiting graduates’ opportunities. Finally, practical experience is crucial in bridging the gap between education and employment. The study was funded by a New Faculty Research Grant from the Broadcast Education Association.
