Arthur D. Soto-Vásquez (Journalism and Media Studies) recently published "Trump, Latin America, and the Caudillo Dilemma" in The New American Nightmare — Media, Populism and the Rise of Authoritarian Legacy. In the chapter, the author investigates the tendency to frame Donald Trump through Latin American caudillismo and evaluates the analytical utility of that analogy. It also examines post-election discourse in 2020 and 2024, showing how “caudillo” circulates as a cultural shorthand to explain shifts among Latino voters.
