Arifa Khalid (Medicine) presented “Breastfeeding Education for Resident Physicians: A Scoping Review of Training Interventions and Gaps” at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference and Exhibition, held Oct. 2-6, 2026, in San Diego, California. Co-authored with Katelan Panetta, Liahm Blank, Joshua Khorsandi, Josephine Sun, Roberto Sagaribay, and Kavita Batra (all Medicine) and Vidhani Goel (Public Health), the presentation mapped the evidence on breastfeeding education for resident physicians across 17 studies. The review found that residents typically receive only one to three hours of breastfeeding training each year, and that interactive, hands-on approaches lead to the most lasting improvements. The authors recommend standardized curricula and stronger integration of breastfeeding education into residency training.
