Group of graduate students in their caps and gowns at graduation

GPSA Graduate Cap & Gown Program

The GPSA's Cap & Gown program allows graduate students to walk at Commencement when regalia cost would present a barrier to their participation.

About the Program

The Cap & Gown program supports students interested in graduation activities but the cost of regalia presents a barrier to their participation. This program is administered on a first-come-first-served basis, with priority to need-based applicants, provided that the requested gown size and hood color are available.

Procedures

Enrolled graduate students may request to rent commencement regalia from the GPSA beginning September 20 (Fall commencement) and February 20 (Spring commencement). Students will be notified via email starting November 1 (Fall) or April 1 (Spring) if GPSA is able to fulfill their rental request.

If GPSA is able to fulfill or partially fulfill the regalia rental request, the student will pick up their regalia approximately one week prior to the Graduate Commencement Ceremony from the Graduate Student Commons (LLB 2141) on the second floor of Lied Library. The student will need to confirm their order's accuracy upon pick up.

UNLV Bookstore

Students may purchase their academic regalia outright at the UNLV Bookstore located off Maryland Pkwy, near the Student Union. The Bookstore requires custom orders to be placed at least eight weeks in advance. The Bookstore does not have any regalia available for online purchase, only in-person.

Herff Jones

UNLV is contracted with Herff Jones for our regalia. To order online and ship to home please visit the Herff Jones online order webpage.

Deposit

Through the GPSA Cap & Gown Program, graduation regalia may be rented for $60. Upon return of the regalia in good condition, $40 will be returned to the student's original payment method (this cost covers dry cleaning and operational expenses of the Cap & Gown Program). Students will be invoiced this cost via email and must pay the invoice with a credit or debit card prior to picking up their rental.

Regalia must be returned no later than one week after the Commencement Ceremony. Contact gpsa@unlv.edu to request an extension.

Regalia may also be mailed back to the address provided on this page.
