GPSA Graduate Cap & Gown Program
The GPSA's Cap & Gown program allows graduate students to walk at Commencement when regalia cost would present a barrier to their participation.
About the Program
The Cap & Gown program supports students interested in graduation activities but the cost of regalia presents a barrier to their participation. This program is administered on a first-come-first-served basis, with priority to need-based applicants, provided that the requested gown size and hood color are available.
Events
Undergraduate students DO NOT use this application. GPSA supports graduate-level students only. Undergraduate students must use the UNLV Cap & Gown Lending Program.
Graduate students must be graduating the semester they apply for this program. Confirm you have met all graduation deadlines and required tasks prior to applying for the GPSA Cap & Gown Program.
Procedures
Enrolled graduate students may request commencement regalia from the GPSA at any time of the year. For peak times (September/October) and February/March), the student must complete the application request form before their order can be fulfilled. Students will be contacted about their application and/or receive notice that their request can be fulfilled beginning October 20 for Fall commencement/March 20 for Spring commencement. Students will be contacted throughout the end of the designated month to ensure accuracy of their submissions and fairness to all students applying. Please expect to hear back from the program between the dates of Oct.20th-31st for Fall and March 20th-31st for Spring.
The GPSA will notify the student via email if all items are available and when their order is ready for pick up throughout the semester. Pick-up is typically the week before commencement, a.k.a. Finals Week. Commencement regalia will be picked up at the Graduate Student Commons (LLB 2141) on the second floor of Lied Library. The student will need to confirm their order's accuracy upon pick up. Please note, we will provide the closest requested gown size available.
The application may be closed before the deadline if the number of requests exceeds the number of available commencement regalia sets in stock.
Purchase UNLV Commencement Regalia
UNLV Bookstore
Students may purchase their academic regalia outright at the UNLV Bookstore physical location on Maryland. The Bookstore requires orders to be placed at least eight weeks in advance for custom robes. The Bookstore does not have any regalia available for online purchase, only in-person. The cost of a master's gown is approximately $65, a master's hood approximately $55, a master's cap approximately $15, and a tassel approximately $10. These prices are only an approximation and does not include tax, so please be mindful when purchasing. Doctoral regalia prices will be higher than that of master's regalia.
Herff Jones
UNLV is contracted with Herff Jones for our regalia. To order online and ship to home please visit the Herff Jones online order webpage.
Deposit
Graduation regalia will be provided to students by the GPSA for a flat deposit of $60 (CASH or REBELCASH ONLY), due upon pick up of the materials. Upon return of the regalia, $40 will be returned to the student (this cost covers dry cleaning and operational expenses of the Cap & Gown Program).
Regalia must be returned no later than one week after the Commencement Ceremony. Email gpsa@unlv.edu to request an extension.
