Preparation and Dedication

The English Language Center is dedicated to training students for success in the transition from ESL classes to academic study at UNLV.


The mission of the English Language Center (ELC) is to provide instruction in English language and American culture to immigrant and international students whose native languages are other than English in a climate of mutual respect and acceptance.

Improve your English skills in 20-hours of face-to-face English as a Second Language instruction per week in all four modalities - listening, speaking, reading, and writing - at six proficiency levels.

The Office of International Students and Scholars

The Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) assists incoming and current international students and scholars, and their families, to make smooth transitions at UNLV.

Meet Our Faculty and Staff

The English Language Center faculty have M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL), English, applied linguistics, literature, or other related fields and extensive experience in teaching English as a second language.
