Urgent Care/Oral Surgery Clinic

UNLV School of Dental Medicine’s Urgent Care/Oral Surgery Clinic provides treatments that relieve persistent or emergent pain and other concerns in the mouth.

About the Clinic

Dental pain can be debilitating, forcing dramatic changes in how a person eats, sleeps, learns, works, and interacts with others. Among children, dental pain is one of the most common reasons for absences and declining academic performance. Adults may experience emotional distress (anxiety, depression), and difficulties with eating and socializing.

The Urgent Care/Oral Surgery Clinic focuses on relieving pain and stabilizing the immediate concern. Our students provide the necessary care under the supervision of licensed faculty dentists and board-certified oral surgeons. Then, we refer the patient to our primary clinics, or to private dental offices in our community, for regular, comprehensive dental care.

Disclaimers

  • Any person(s) younger than 18 may not stay in our waiting room while his or her parent or guardian is receiving treatment.
  • Family members, friends, or other persons will not be permitted in the treatment area while the patient is receiving care. Those family members or friends who help a patient check-in will be directed to an external waiting area once the treatment begins.
  • UNLV School of Dental Medicine does not tolerate abusive behavior toward students, staff, faculty, or other patients. Those who demonstrate this conduct will be immediately dismissed from the clinic.

Appointments and Walk-Ins

To schedule or reschedule an appointment, call 702-774-2457 or 702-774-2458. You must be 16 years or older to be seen in this clinic. Children younger than 16 will be seen in the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic.

Walk-in visits are available Monday through Friday at 7:30 a.m. and noon, and are subject to student availability between scheduled appointments.

Preparing for Your Visit

  • All walk-in and new patients are screened for health issues, which may require a consultation with his or her primary care physician. The screening also helps determine if the student can provide the appropriate level of care. If the needs are too complex for students, our clinic will provide a referral to a licensed dental practitioner.
  • Patients with appointments should arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled time, and must bring the following:
    • Photo ID or driver’s license (must be a physical card)
    • Insurance card
  • Patients who have guardians must bring Power of Attorney or certified court documents showing legal guardianship.

Payment

For those with private insurance, the co-pay for an exam only is $45 and $93 for an exam and extraction. For those without insurance, the exam and extraction costs $143. We accept most insurances, including Medicaid, and can take cash and credit cards for payment.
