The UNLV Honors College offers a unique summer field trip throughout the state to immerse students in issues that are both wide-ranging and interconnected. The goal is to build knowledge of the Silver State beyond Las Vegas so these future leaders better understand the industries and environments — from urban to rural, from industry to ranching — that make Nevada exceptional.

UNLV's student-athletes earned the university's highest-ever NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) score of 985 out of 1000. The APR measures academic achievement within athletics programs by tracking eligibility, retention, and graduation rates over multiple years. For the 15th straight year, all 17 of UNLV's NCAA Division I sports programs possessed a multi-year APR score that exceeds the NCAA minimum. Seven UNLV teams earned a perfect score of 1,000 to set or tie their own top marks. Rebels continue to reach new heights, both on the field and in the classroom.

In collaboration with 19 of the nation’s top research institutions, UNLV has established the Alliance of Hispanic Serving Research Universities. The Alliance plans to boost Hispanic doctoral student enrollment and faculty numbers at member institutions by 2030. By prioritizing equity and inclusivity, this pioneering initiative will create a lasting impact within graduate-level academia.

UNLV is building upon the achievements of Kirk Kerkorian Medical School professor Edwin Oh's wastewater surveillance program by collaborating with the Southern Nevada Health District, Southern Nevada Water Authority, and the Desert Research Institute. Together, they are spearheading the development of an innovative online dashboard aimed at swiftly detecting early surges of SARS-CoV-2 and emerging variants in Southern Nevada. This cutting-edge initiative signifies UNLV's proactive approach in safeguarding the region's health, and utilizing advanced technology and collaboration to ensure timely interventions that protect the well-being of the community.

Portrait of Paul Werth

UNLV faculty are at the forefront of geopolitical history and theory, with history professor Paul Werth receiving a $70,000 Guggenheim Fellowship award for his expertise on Russia. Werth is one of only 180 Guggenheim Fellows who will engage in projects that will directly respond to issues like climate change, pandemics, racism, and the war in Ukraine. Werth's recognition and contributions exemplify UNLV's commitment to addressing global challenges through research and scholarship.
