Units
Chemical Inventory Management
The Chemical Inventory Management unit is crucial in ensuring the safety of people and materials by maintaining an up-to-date inventory of hazardous chemicals across campus through the CHIMERA system. The unit also oversees the development and implementation of a range of RMS safety software solutions, including CHIMERA, to support comprehensive safety protocols and streamline hazard tracking, usage, and compliance across UNLV.
Environmental Management & Laboratory Safety
Environmental Management & Laboratory Safety (EMLS) ensures the safety and compliance of the campus community by managing chemical and laboratory safety, hazardous materials and waste, and environmental programs. Through proactive oversight and comprehensive support, EMLS fosters a culture of safety and environmental stewardship across campus operations.
Fire and Life Safety
The UNLV Fire and Life Safety Office ensures campus safety through inspections, training, and adherence to state and local codes across over 300 acres and satellite locations. The office also plays a key role in the pre-construction phase of new buildings and expansions, reviewing designs to meet safety standards.
Occupational Safety
The Occupational Safety unit at UNLV ensures a safe environment for employees, students, and visitors by identifying hazards, implementing preventive measures, and following OSHA standards. The unit offers in-person and online training to promote safety and well-being.
Radiological Safety
The Radiation Safety Office is responsible for the use of radioactive material, radiation producing devices, and lasers on campus. The office works with researchers to ensure that their use of radiation is safe and complies with state and federal regulations.
