UNLV celebrates National Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) Week, recognizing the vital role Hispanic-Serving Institutions play in supporting students, preparing a skilled workforce, and strengthening local communities.
The celebration continues as we transition into Hispanic Heritage Month. We invite faculty and staff to step away from the office, engage with students, and connect across campus through these vibrant, campuswide events:
September 15 | 12–1 PM | SU 207
Center for Academic Enrichment & Outreach – Tote-ally Cultura & Empanadas
Design your own tote bags while enjoying empanadas, and engage with students in a creative, interactive setting.
September 16 | 11:30 AM–2 PM | SU Courtyard
Student Diversity Programs & Rebel Rec – Fiesta en el Patio
Kick off Hispanic Heritage Month with pupusas in the courtyard—meet students, network with colleagues, and celebrate Latinx culture.
September 18 | 11:30 AM–2 PM | Barrick Museum
Student Diversity Programs & Barrick Museum – Latinx Mini Con
Interact with Hispanic faculty and students as you explore current issues impacting the community—an excellent opportunity for mentorship and dialogue.
September 18 | 1–2 PM | Goldfield Room
UNLV Libraries – ¡Lotería Literaria!
Celebrate 25 years of the Lied Library with students and colleagues through a fun, literary activity.
September 18 | 5–9 PM | Hazel M. Wilson Dining Commons
Student Diversity Programs, Food Tasting Club, & Aramark – Noche De Sabor
Taste, rate, and enjoy Latinx cuisine while connecting with students and other faculty in a festive, interactive evening.
Faculty and staff participation is key to making these celebrations meaningful. Step out, engage, and help our students feel recognized and supported. Let’s celebrate Latinx culture together and show the UNLV community the power of mentorship, connection, and shared experience.
