OIT Mourns the Passing of Terri Thompson

It is with deep sadness and a very heavy heart that we share the difficult news that our colleague and friend, Terri Thompson, passed away unexpectedly on March 5.

Terri served with NSHE for more than 22 years, holding roles at UNR, TMCC, Great Basin College, System Administration, and ultimately UNLV. She joined UNLV’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) in 2019 and was promoted to Director of IT Administrative Services in 2022.

Over the years, she provided steady, thoughtful leadership and operational direction for IT Administrative Services and across OIT, leading with both strategic vision and genuine care for people. Beyond her many accomplishments, Terri will be remembered for the kindness and calm presence she brought to her work and to those around her.

Terri earned both her Bachelor of Science in Accounting and her Master of Business Administration from Hawaii Pacific University. Her strong financial acumen and strategic insight were evident throughout her career, especially in the leadership she brought to OIT.

She exemplified collaborative leadership, empowering others, encouraging innovative thinking, and working closely with colleagues across units and campus committees to ensure our efforts aligned with the university’s strategic priorities. Her service-oriented mindset, responsiveness, and integrity earned her the trust and respect of faculty and staff.

Terri has left a lasting mark on OIT and this university. We are better because of her leadership, her dedication, and her heart.
