The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) is pleased to announce a call for applications for two Faculty Fellow positions beginning in spring 2026. These fellows will play an integral role in advancing the mission of OUR by helping to broaden the scope of programs offered, expand the number of students served, and strengthen the overall culture of undergraduate research across the university. To ensure representation across disciplines, OUR is seeking to appoint one Faculty Fellow from a STEM-related field and one Faculty Fellow from a non-STEM field, which may include the arts, humanities, or social sciences. By engaging faculty from diverse academic backgrounds, OUR aims to foster program development that reflects the wide range of scholarly inquiry across campus.
Faculty Fellows will collaborate closely with the OUR director and program manager, contributing their disciplinary expertise, creativity, and leadership to enhance research programming and student engagement initiatives. In addition, the fellows will work in partnership with key campus units that support and expand undergraduate research opportunities. Through these fellowships, faculty will have the opportunity not only to support and mentor students, but also to shape the direction of undergraduate research at UNLV—strengthening the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and inclusive student success.
Description & Responsibilities: OUR Faculty Fellows spend about 10 hours per week, on average, working with the office on select programs and projects. The two new OUR Faculty Fellows will each work on the following:
- Advancing the strategic mission of the Office of Undergraduate Research through significantly enhancing student support in key areas
- Working with the director and program manager to expand research programming and the number of undergraduate students participating in undergraduate research
- Assisting with the Undergraduate Research Symposium
- Developing student-centered research projects and mentorship opportunities for undergraduate students interested in pursuing research
- Assist in identifying and pursuing funding opportunities to support undergraduate research
Type of Appointment: This is a one-year appointment (starting in January 2026). Fellows will be expected to maintain their faculty responsibilities, including workload, while balancing the administrative responsibilities of this position. Fellows will receive a $10,000 stipend for successful completion of year-long appointment.
Qualifications: Candidates must be full time research active academic faculty with a strong record of (1) mentoring undergraduate students within a research capacity; (2) enhancing undergraduate research within the classroom; and (3) service and/or leadership experience. Ideal candidates will be strong communicators, organized project managers, analytical and creative thinkers, and engaged advocates for undergraduate research who are able to collaborate successfully with diverse groups across campus to advance shared goals and projects. All applicants must receive permission from their college dean prior to applying.
