New Sponsored Programs Lifecycle Handbook Now Available

The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) has released UNLV’s inaugural Sponsored Programs Lifecycle Handbook.

Designed for principal investigators, project managers, departmental grant administrators, business managers, and research staff, the handbook provides practical guidance for navigating the full lifecycle of a sponsored project from identifying funding opportunities and developing and submitting proposals through award negotiation, project management, reporting, and closeout.

The handbook also clarifies the roles and responsibilities of investigators, departments, colleges, OSP, and other University partners and provides guidance regarding:

  •     Proposal preparation and submission through Cayuse SP
  •     Budget development and cost principles
  •     Research compliance requirements
  •     Award negotiation and institutional signature authority
  •     Subawards and sponsor prior approvals
  •     Project expenditures, cost transfers, and cost sharing
  •     Effort, equipment, travel, and program income
  •     Sponsor reporting, invoicing, and award closeout

The handbook is intended to serve as a principal investigator onboarding guide, a day-to-day award management reference, a compliance and risk-reduction resource, and a shared framework for collaboration among faculty, departments, colleges, and OSP.

Because sponsored programs requirements and University procedures continue to evolve, the handbook will be maintained as a living resource. Please refer to the OSP Researcher Toolkit for the most current version rather than relying on a previously printed or downloaded copy.

You can also email osp@unlv.edu to request a copy of the handbook, ask questions, or give feedback.
