June 2025 Rebel Accessibility Hero

The UNLV offices of educational compliance and accessibility resources recognize Nia Smercina, GPSA manager and advisor, as our June 2025 Rebel Accessibility Hero.

In his nomination letter for Smercina, Jerra Strong, web accessibility specialist in Web & Digital Strategy and our inaugural Rebel Accessibility Hero, stated:

Smercina monitors the Graduate Professional Student Association's web presence using weekly reports and communications from the web team. In her role as an advisor to GPSA, she organizes accessibility training and assists each new executive board with templates and accessibility advice.

Given the ever-changing nature of their web presence, this is no small task.

Smercina understands the goal of streamlining efficiency and accessibility so that a culture of equal access simply "runs in the background," allowing focus on meeting the needs of a diverse campus community.

Because of her tireless efforts and willingness to share her knowledge, I believe she embodies a Rebel Accessibility Hero.

Please join us in honoring Nia Smercina as our Rebel Accessibility Hero for June 2025.
