The UNLV offices of educational compliance and accessibility resources proudly recognize Danielle Mireles, assistant professor of cultural studies, international education, and multicultural education in the College of Education, as our July 2025 Rebel Accessibility Hero.
Mireles has demonstrated a deep commitment to digital inclusion by proactively attending accessibility training to expand her knowledge and bring that expertise into her classroom. She invited the Office of Accessibility Resources (OAR) to engage directly with her multicultural education students, helping them explore the importance of digital accessibility and fostering more inclusive attitudes toward people with disabilities.
Her efforts didn’t stop there. Mireles played a pivotal role in establishing the College of Education’s Accessible Technology Committee (ATC). She also organized customized accessibility training for the committee, ensuring that faculty and staff had the tools and knowledge to make meaningful changes.
One of Mireles' standout contributions is her leadership in launching the “Delete, Link, Contact OAR!” campaign — an initiative designed to raise awareness about improving the accessibility of WebCampus courses. Through this campaign, ATC and OAR identified actionable steps the College of Education can take immediately to enhance digital access for all students.
Mireles' work is especially timely as institutions prepare to meet the updated Title II regulations of the Americans with Disabilities Act, with a compliance deadline of April 2026. Her proactive approach and collaborative spirit are helping to ensure that UNLV is not only compliant but also a leader in inclusive education.
Please join us in celebrating Danielle Mireles as our Rebel Accessibility Hero for July 2025!
