What does academic freedom mean at UNLV?
Academic freedom continues to be an important and increasingly complex conversation across higher education. As universities navigate changes in federal oversight, state legislation, institutional governance, and expectations of public accountability, questions surrounding faculty autonomy and institutional responsibility remain at the forefront.
Join the UNLV community for Demystifying Academic Freedom at UNLV on Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 4 p.m.–5:30 p.m. via Zoom, part of the Campus Conversations in Peace & Civility series.
This virtual panel brings together university leadership, faculty, and a legal perspective for a timely discussion exploring the tension between faculty autonomy and public accountability amid changes in federal oversight, state legislation, and institutional governance.
Featured panelists include Lakshmi Reddi, Ph.D., executive vice president and provost; Kirsten Brandt, executive director of Nevada Conservatory Theatre and chair of the Department of Theatre; Christopher Peterson, legal director for the ACLU of Nevada; and Michael Kagan, Joyce Mack Professor of Law, director of the UNLV Immigration Clinic, and chair of the UNLV Faculty Senate.
Students, faculty, staff, and members of the UNLV community are invited to join the conversation.
Registration is required to receive access to the Zoom session.
