Join Alt Breaks for Organizing with PRIDE Immersion

The UNLV Alternative Breaks team is hosting a Community Organizing with Pride Immersion event this coming Saturday, Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and we are inviting UNLV faculty and staff to join us as we have some participant spots remaining!

What is an Alt Breaks Immersion?
Immersions are free, one-day community based-learning experiences that occur within or around the Las Vegas region. Participants should expect their experience to include community engagement and learning activities, as well as individual and group reflection.

Schedule for the Day:
  • 10 am - Check-in & Breakfast (meet in Student Union 316)
  • 10:05 am - History of Queer Organizing & Community Org Panel (orgs represented will include Las Vegas Pride, Sin Sity Sisters, and Sapphics in the City Las Vegas)
  • 11:20 am - Shuttle to Desert Breeze Park
  • 12 pm - Arrive at the Las Vegas Pride Festival
  • 12:30 pm - Volunteer at the Pride Festival (you get free entry by volunteering with us!)
  • 4:15 pm - Shuttle back to UNLV main campus
  • 5 pm - End of program
Options for attendance:
  1. Participate in the entire event, including using the transportation our group will provide.
  2. Participate in the entire event, but plan to drive yourself to and from Desert Breeze Park.
  3. Attend only part of the event; either the morning education and panel OR the service project in the afternoon. You would need to provide your own transportation for this option.
If you are interested in joining us, please email Leanne Soter (Leanne.Soter@unlv.edu) no later than the morning of Friday, October 16. In your RSVP, please specify which attendance option you have selected from the list above.
