Dak Kopec (Architecture) recently released an edited book, Health and Well-being for Interior Architecture. Published by Routledge, this book contains 15 essays by diverse scholars and professionals from architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, and allied fields such as law, nursing, and education. The overarching goal of the book is to expose those in the design fields with the methods and data required to develop spaces that support health and well-being for all occupants.

Forty undergraduates recently were awarded scholarships through the office of undergraduate research's summer undergraduate research funding (OUR SURF) program. These scholarships support undergraduate research, scholarship, entrepreneurial, performance, or visual art projects in the summer months. Deborah Oakley (Architecture)  is the new co-author of Salvadori’s Structure in Architecture, The Building of Buildings (4th edition). Susanna Newbury (Art) and Maria del C Vera (Architecture) recently published their joint study "Arbitrage Las Vegas: A Portrait of Urban Games" in Spaces and Flows: An International Journal of Urban and Extraurban Studies. The article considers the roles of arbitrage, risk, and theories of gaming in the redevelopment of downtown Las Vegas.

Steven Clarke (Architecture) has been appointed as the new director of the UNLV Downtown Design Center (DDC). The DDC is a platform for students and faculty to get involved in our community through funded projects and grants. He brings a unique set of skills and experiences to this position, including a keen understanding of food systems and water resource management.

Joshua Vermillion (Architecture) just signed a book deal with Routledge. The book, co-written with Jason Johnson, is titled Digital Design Exercises for Architecture Students. It is due to be released in November 2015.

Alfredo Fernandez-Gonzalez (Architecture) has been invited as an expert speaker to address two workshops in China. The first, organized by China's National Energy Administration and funded by the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Secretariat, is titled "Low Carbon Model Town Development Index System." The second workshop, "New Skins of Green Buildings," is organized by Tianjin University. He said the visit will give him important insight for his UNLV Leadership Academy project.
