The UNLV Wind Orchestra, under the direction of Thomas G. Leslie, launches the 2026-2027 UNLV Division of Wind Band Studies Concert Series with Spiritual Planet at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1 in Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall. Tickets are available online.
At the center of the program is Wataru Hokoyama’s Spiritual Planet, a vibrant and cinematic work that draws inspiration from the composer’s travels and encounters with cultures around the world. Its sweeping sonorities, rhythmic energy, and brilliant orchestration provide a spectacular centerpiece for the UNLV Wind Orchestra’s first performance of the season.
Opening night also will welcome the Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Jordan Mathisen, as the evening’s featured guest ensemble. Bringing together outstanding collegiate and secondary musicians, the concert celebrates the artistry, collaboration, and community at the heart of the wind band tradition.
