The UNLV Performing Arts Center opens its 2010-11 Season with two-time Grammy Award-winning violinist Hilary Hahn at 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 30 as part of the Charles Vanda Master Series.
Hahn and celebrated 22-year-old pianist Natasha Paremski join the UNLV Symphony Orchestra, led by music director and conductor Taras Krysa, in a program that includes Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto and Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 1.
Gramophone magazine's Artist of the Year in 2008, Hahn is celebrated for her probing interpretations, technical brilliance and compelling presence on stage. For a decade and a half, extensive touring and acclaimed recordings have made Hahn one of the most sought-after artists on the international concert circuit. Hahn appears regularly with the world's elite orchestras and on the most prestigious recital series in Europe, Asia, Australasia and North and South America.
With her consistently dynamic performances, Paremski reveals astounding virtuosity and interpretive abilities. In the summer of 2009, she performed at the Colorado Music Festival and with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. She has performed with major orchestras including a return engagement with the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, and appeared at Lincoln Center as part of the "What Makes it Great?" series with Rob Kapilow. Paremski made her Asian debut during the 2008-2009 season with the National Symphony Orchestra in Taipei and in recital in Tokyo. She also toured the United Kingdom with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra.
Tickets to Hilary Hahn are $35, $50 and $70 and can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center Box Office at 895-ARTS (2787) or by visiting pac.unlv.edu. Student rush tickets are $13 each and available one hour prior to each event, based on availability and with valid student I.D. UNLV faculty and staff discounts also are available. A $1.25 facilities fee, in addition to the ticket price, is charged on all Performing Arts Center tickets. The box office is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Founded in 1976, the Performing Arts Center at UNLV continues to be Southern Nevada's premier performing arts venue.
