The Barrick Lecture Series presents nationally and internationally renowned speakers through a generous grant from philanthropist Marjorie Barrick.
Doris Kearns Goodwin is the author of six critically acclaimed and New York Times best-selling books, including her Pulitzer Prize-winning, No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front in World War II. Her most recent, The Bully Pulpit: Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft and the Golden Age of Journalism won the Carnegie Medal and the film rights have been acquired by DreamWorks Studios. Goodwin previously worked with DreamWorks and Steven Spielberg on the film Lincoln, which was based in part on her book, Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln.
Well known for her appearances and commentary on television, Goodwin is frequently seen on all the major networks and has appeared on political talk shows such as The Charlie Rose Show and Meet the Press. She has also been a guest on night time talk shows like The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Colbert Report, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and more. Goodwin has served as a consultant and has been interviewed extensively for PBS and History Channel documentaries.
Goodwin graduated magna cum laude from Colby College and was a Woodrow Wilson fellow. She earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Government from Harvard University. By age 24, she began working directly with President Lyndon B. Johnson as a White House fellow. She currently resides in Concord, Massachusetts with her husband Richard N. Goodwin.
Tickets
The lecture is free but tickets are required for entry. Tickets are limited to two per person and can be picked up at the Performing Arts Center box office located off Cottage Grove Avenue at South Maryland Parkway.
Tickets are available to UNLV faculty, staff and students beginning Wednesday, April 13 at 10 a.m. Members of the general public can obtain tickets beginning Saturday, April 16 at 10 a.m.
