UNLV Jazz Ensemble I, directed by Dave Loeb, will perform with legendary jazz drummer Gregg Bissonette at 7:30  p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, in Judy Bayley Theater. Included in the performance will be selections made famous by the great drummer Buddy Rich and repertoire from the Maynard Ferguson library. 

Bissonette, who recently returned from an international tour with Ringo Starr, also will perform with the UNLV Honors Trio. The trio recently performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival after winning the College Combo Division at the Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival in 2018, competing among the top university groups in the nation. UNLV Jazz Ensemble I was recognized in the 2019 DownBeat Magazine Student Music Awards for Outstanding Performance in the Graduate College Large Ensemble category. Recognition in Downbeat is considered among the highest honors in jazz education worldwide.
