More than 500 geologists and engineers from around the world will meet in Las Vegas September 19-24 for the 48 th annual Conference of the Association of Engineering Geologists at the Flamingo Hotel.

Topics to be discussed at this year's conference include landslides, earthquakes, seismic hazards, groundwater contamination, and environmental assessment. Among the highlights of the event, on Sept. 21 at 9:30 a.m., Hoover Dam and Lake Mead will be awarded the "Outstanding Environmental & Engineering Geologic Project" for providing flood control, irrigation, drinking water, and power to communities in Nevada, Arizona, and California for the past 70 years.

The Keynote Address will precede the award ceremony at 8:45 a.m., and will be presented by Nevada State Geologist Jonathan G. Price. Price will discuss current geological issues in Nevada, including gold, earthquakes, water, and nuclear waste.
