The College of Fine Arts is pleased to announce Allison Clarke is the winner of the 3rd Annual Pamela Oland Phillips Excellence in the Art of Writing Lyrics Award. Clarke, a singer-songwriter based in Nashville, won with her original composition Scratches in the Hardwood. She receives $5,000 and is invited to work with College of Fine Arts students in the fall.
Honorable mentions were Dan Harrison and Germaine Shames.
"As a songwriting mentor to local high school students, I am passionate about guiding the next generation of writers," said Clarke. "I am honored to visit UNLV to collaborate with students and share my experience in music and lyric writing."
“This competition seeks to develop and promote the craft of songwriting across the disciplines of music, theatre, and dance. We are so pleased to steward this worthwhile endeavor within the College of Fine Arts," said CFA Dean Nancy J. Uscher.
Adjudicators included internationally acclaimed performer Clint Holmes; Linda Chelgren, CEO/Sync Agent of KitchenSyncSongs — a full-service music licensing & consulting company; and music industry executive, Susan Slamer.
