WHAT
More than 50 architecture students will attempt to create the nation's largest cardboard building. If successful, they will break a national cardboard structure record of 1,655 boxes held by students from Brigham Young University. Students and organizers of the event also hope to promote the concept of green living, by creating this structure using all boxes recycled on the UNLV campus.

Saturday, April 20 during UNLV's Festival of Communities
- Structure building begins at 8:30 a.m. and should be completed by about 11 a.m.
- The completed structure also will remain on display all day during UNLV's Festival of Communities and Green Fest. The festival ends at 6 p.m.

The battle to build the world's largest cardboard structure has been an ongoing rivalry between three schools: UNLV, Harvard University, and BYU. The record is posted on the website recordsetter.com.
UNLV students have been preparing for weeks to manipulate the cardboard into realistic architectural concepts, using lessons learned in a fundamentals of design course.
- The structure will resemble rooms of cardboard boxes woven into each other or molded into furniture, plants, bookcases, seating areas and more.
- A large elephant made out of cardboard will be one of the compelling designs as well as a giant mustache fashioned after the one worn by "Hey Reb!"
- Members of the community will also have a chance to take place in the construction and help the UNLV team beat the record.
The event is held during UNLV's Festival of Communities , which this year for the first time, is collaborating with GreenFEST. These two festivals, with the combined mission to celebrate the rich cultural diversity of UNLV and the Las Vegas Valley and honor National Earth Day, invite students, community partners, non-profits, organizations, schools and families to explore and be inspired.
Festivities include green vendors, live entertainment, performances, activities, food and drink from around the world, recycling and conservation exhibits, campus tours, fashion shows, art, mascots, a beer garden and more.
