Debate day in Las Vegas is finally here.

It’s been more than a year since the Commission on Presidential Debates announced that UNLV had secured one of the three coveted slots. Apart from bringing the university and the city into the limelight, today is the third and final chance for voters to watch Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton square off before Election Day on Nov. 8.

Once upon a time, Donald Trump owned a bunch of casinos, so Las Vegas should be kind of home turf for him when he takes the stage at 9 p.m. ET Wednesday for the third and final presidential debate against Hillary Clinton. The debate is being hosted by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where student attendance is being limited to undergraduates with a C average or better and graduate students with a grade average above a B.

Among the topics announced for the third presidential debate on Wednesday night, the Supreme Court is one that has only been discussed briefly in previous debates, and yet it could be a key issue that the outcome of the election hinges on.

Cynthia Salcido may make a living cleaning casino restrooms and picking up broken glass, but she and the members of the Culinary Workers Union Local 226 make up the backbone of the casino industry in Las Vegas, Nevada. The union is training its members to encourage people to vote. They also have plans to make sure their voices are heard when all eyes are on Las Vegas for the last presidential debate.

The upstart UNLV School of Medicine just cleared its biggest hurdle yet.

The school was granted preliminary accreditation today by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, paving the way for the school to teach its first class starting next summer.
