The IGI of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, says each US state legislature must make policy decisions that are unique to its jurisdiction as regards sports betting. They warn that if tax structures and fees are too high, those wishing to place bets may turn to a neighboring jurisdiction or the illegal market. Both online gaming and sports betting are ripe for innovations, as disruptive technologies and new offerings have already begun to emerge, the IGI says.

In her Hugo-finalist novel Record of a Spaceborn Few, Becky Chambers envisions a future where humanity travels the galaxy in generational ships, their entire civilisation dependent on a well-oiled system of reusing and recycling resources. Every waste product is expertly crafted into something else, sustaining the space travellers for generations.

According to the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) report, when it comes to food waste, “the cost estimate for the average family of four is $1,365 to $2,275 annually.” The exact figures on what contributes to American food waste were unavailable, but “in the United Kingdom, about two-thirds of household waste is due to food spoilage from not being used on-time; whereas, the other one-third is caused by people cooking or serving too much.”
