The University of Nevada, Las Vegas University Police Department partnered with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to locate and arrest the suspect accused of sexually assaulting a UNLV student.

The assault occurred around 3 a.m. Tuesday at the Legacy Apartments, a student residential complex on the north end of the UNLV campus.

In a message to UNLV’s community following the assault, UNLV interim president Chris Heavey said Tuesday he was “deeply troubled” by the incident and that the campus would see heightened police presence in response.

"It is extremely unfortunate and unacceptable that this incident occurred at all, much less on our campus," UPD Chief Arnold Vasquez said in a statement. "Rest assured that UNLV leadership, UPD, LVMPD and all our law enforcement partners are committed to support the victim through this terrible incident and will continue to work collaboratively to protect and safeguard the communities we serve."
