As temperatures drop and natural food sources become harder for wildlife to find, your yard can become an important refreshment stop for winter birds. But simply getting whatever bird feeder you can find and filling it with seed isn’t always helpful. The type of feeder, where you place it and how often you clean it can all affect which birds show up and whether you accidentally invite squirrels, mice and other pests into your yard as well.

New initiative includes partnership with education nonprofit Earn to Learn
UNLV administrators and U.S. Rep. Susie Lee, D-Nev., launched Destination Degree, an initiative to help more people earn bachelor’s degrees, at a panel discussion Thursday at UNLV. Eligible students who deposit up to $500 a year into a matched savings account receive $8 for every $1, up to $4,000 annually. The program also includes coaching and financial education.
Mate-value refers to a person’s overall desirability as a romantic partner. According to the researchers, as women have gained economic independence and surpassed men in college attendance, women are less reliant on men for financial security. Men who lack a college degree now face steeper competition in both the job market and the dating pool. This perceived loss of status and romantic insecurity, the authors suggest, generates resentment toward feminism and women’s equality.
