The UNLV Military & Veteran Services Center (MVSC) recently hosted a Veterans Affairs (VA) education compliance survey specialist, who conducted a regular audit of VA benefit user files.
No discrepancies were found and the auditor bestowed high praise for the team's orderly files and exceptional customer service. This is a testament not only to the leadership of Melissa Barber, interim director of certifying, and her dedicated MVSC staff, but also a team of MVSC student workers who assist in the preparation and processing of VA benefit requests.
Of note, this difficult accomplishment happened during our most stressful time of in-processing, conducting our veteran orientation, coordinating peer-to-peer mentoring for probation students, and certifying our more than 1,200 military-affiliated students’ benefits for the new semester. The team also is currently working to move from a manual, paper-based system to a paperless process to streamline efforts and further expand upon personalized customer service. Well done, team!
